Nancy King

I have had the pleasure of working with children for almost 40 years. I started my career as an elementary school teacher, working with intellectually and physically disabled children in specialized classrooms. I then received my master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Nova Southeastern University in 1995 and began my career as a therapist. I worked with the Broward County Public Schools system as a preschool evaluation specialist, wherein I helped children transition from the Early Steps program into schools. I have worked, and continue to work, with children with a variety of delays and disabilities, including Autism spectrum disorder, feeding aversions (medical and sensory), Down Syndrome, rare Chromosomal Deletion Syndromes, Apraxia of speech, and different speech and language impairments. My daily work focuses on communication and feeding, whether that be assisting littles in learning to enjoy mealtime or helping them learn how to get their needs met through verbal language, sign language, or alternative communication styles. Let’s face it: communicating and eating are two of the most important things that we all need and want to do in our daily lives; so, I take tremendous pride and joy in knowing that I help children obtain those skills. In addition to working with my clients, I am passionate about educating and supporting parents and caretakers, providing them with tools and resources to apply what we do in the therapy room to all other areas of life.  Aside from my formal schooling and clinical training, I've attended various feeding and language courses to enhance my knowledge and skills throughout the years. Some of my favorite experts include Cari Ebert, Alexandria Zachos, Diane Bahr, Lori Overland, Robyn Merkel-Walsh, and Melanie Potock, all of whom specialize in pediatric communication and feeding. I'm also excited to be n AEIOU: An Integrated Approach To Pediatric Feeding trained therapist. When I am not at the office or doing teletherapy, I enjoy relaxing at home with my husband Wayne and our two cats. I am an avid UM fan (go 'Canes!), a lover of country music, and a dedicated NaiNai to our two granddaughters.

I am a bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist Clinical Fellow at Sunny Steps, providing therapy in both English and Spanish. I joined Sunny Steps in 2024 as a graduate student intern and returned in 2025 for my final clinical placement before starting my Clinical Fellowship. It truly feels like a full-circle moment—I loved my experience here so much that I knew I had to come back. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Florida and my Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Florida International University. I have been working with children since 2018, starting as an aftercare and summer camp counselor, which sparked my passion for working with kids. I value collaboration with families and strive to create a warm, supportive, and engaging therapy environment. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, crocheting, and buying lots of toys for all the kids!

I began my journey working with children over 12 years ago, and every moment since has been such a delight. I started as a preschool teacher and earned my certification as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant in 2023. As someone who personally benefited from speech therapy during my childhood and teen years, it is an absolute privilege to now support children as they work toward similar goals I once pursued.

Under the direction and guidance of Nancy, our head SLP, I assist in providing treatment for clients with communication and feeding needs. I am currently in graduate school, furthering my education as I work toward becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist. My passion is helping toddlers flourish in their communication with confidence and joy. Working as an SLPA alongside children and their families is such a gift—it continually uplifts and encourages me as I grow both personally and professionally.

In my spare time, I love teaching youth classes at my church, soaking up fresh air on my morning walks, and spending sweet, quality time with my niece and nephew.
